“The Distillery With tThe 3 Names Confusion”
To be honest, I was very confused when I first got involved with the Eigashima / White Oak / Akashi bottles. Because bottles with these three different names kept popping up. To solve the
mystery, here is my hopefully understandable interpretation. So, the company is called Eigashima Shuzo, which was founded in 1919 and is one of the most famous sake and shochu producers in Japan.
The distillery is called White Oak, although many local signs say Eigashima Distillery. And Akashi is the name of the town where the distillery is located and this contributed to the naming of
the whisky.
I came across the bottlings through Stefan van Eycken and his Ghost series. In the meantime, the distillery has already contributed 3 bottles to the series. This is probably due to the willingness to experiment and the quality of the bottlings. The first Ghost Malt matured in an ex-sake cask, the second in a French Cabernet cask and the current one in a Tawny Port cask.
Ehrlich gesagt war ich sehr verwirrt als ich mit den Eigashima / White Oak / Akashi Flaschen zum ersten mal beschäftigte. Denn es tauchten immer wieder Flaschen mit diesen drei
verschiedenen Namen auf. Um das Rätsel aufzulösen hier meine hoffentlich verständliche Auslegung. Also, das Unternehmen heißt Eigashima Shuzo wurde 1919 gegründet und ist als einer der
bekanntesten Sake und Shochu Produzenten Japans. Die Brennerei heißt White Oak obwohl auf vielen Schildern vor Ort Eigashima Distillery dransteht. Und Akashi ist der Name der Stadt in der sich
die Brennerei Brennerei und dieser zur Namensgebung des Whisky beigetragen hat.
Ich bin auf die Abfüllungen durch Stefan van Eycken und seiner Ghost Serie gestoßen. Denn mittlerweile hat die Brennerei schon 3 Flaschen, bis Dato heute, zu der Serie beisteuern können. Das liegt wohl an der Experimentierfreudigkeit und Qualität der Abfüllungen. Der erste Ghost Malt reifte in einem ex-Sake Fass, der zweite in einem französischen Cabernet Fass und das aktuelle in einem Tawny Port Fass.
